Kisaragi-Sai Festival – Saturday 3 March

Kisaragi-Sai Festival returns to Roma Street Parkland on Saturday 3 March, for its 4th year. Experience the flavours of Japan with a range of pop-up food stalls, plus much more all in the one summer night-time festival. The event showcases the many facets of Japanese culture and society with a range of Japanese music and dance with performances across two stages on Celebration Lawn from 5pm-8:30pm. There will also be martial arts, Bonsai, Ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arrangement), market stalls, artist demonstrations, exhibitions and children’s activities.  At 8.30pm, catch the free screening of Ancien and the Magic Tablet in the Amphitheatre – a Japanese-language film with English subtitles (110 minutes). For more information, visit brisbanemetropolitanbands.com.

The Sound Society – 3 to 4 March

Fresh to the Brisbane scene, The Sound Society is a unique music experience – forget cramped venues and pushy crowds! Instead, recharge in the sun-dappled trees, sweeping lawns and gently-chirping birdlife of Brisbane’s beautiful inner-city parks. The Sound Society’s relaxed vibe and central location make it perfect for a solo outing, a chill date or a group gathering. Bring your own picnic or grab a bite to eat from one of the food vendors. The Sound Society is held at South Bank Parklands on the first Saturday of each month from 2-7pm at Rainforest Green. It will also take place in Roma Street Parkland, at the Banyan Lawn on the first Sunday of each month from 9am to 12noon. Find out who’s playing each month at thesoundsociety.com.au.

World Science Festival Brisbane – 21 to 25 March

Brisbane will come alive for five days and four nights with an epic program of science and art when the third annual World Science Festival Brisbane returns on 21- 25 March. Hosted by Queensland Museum, the festival will bring science out of the laboratory and into the streets, parks, museums and performing arts venues of Brisbane. The 2018 festival will focus on ‘humanity’ as scientists from across the globe delve into what makes us human, how humanity has advanced, and how science is working to ensure we live better for longer. Some of the biggest international names in science will be accompanied by a strong list of home-grown talent at what has become Brisbane’s premier platform for showcasing a compelling program of events.
