Pack a picnic basket, grab a blanket and head to one of my favourite inner city locations to enjoy a picnic while the weather is warm and sunny.
River Quay
River Quay at South Bank Parklands is a lush grassy heaven situated on the banks of the Brisbane River with spectacular views over the river and Brisbane city. Enjoy the delights of your BYO picnic basket with a glass of wine, as this is one of Brisbane’s only licensed parks, or order ahead from Popolo Italian Kitchen and Bar one of their three delicious picnic options.
Kangaroo Point Cliffs
Offering iconic views of Brisbane city, Kangaroo Point Cliffs is perhaps Brisbane’s most spectacular picnic location. Unpack your picnic basket and cook up the sausages on one of the many gas bbq’s situated at the top and the base of the cliffs. After your picnic enjoy a riverside walk or bike ride along the walking and cycling paths at the base of the cliffs.
Roma Street Parkland
Enjoy a picnic at Roma Street Parkland, home to some of the best contemporary garden displays in Australia. With vast green lawns aplenty, and gas bbq’s, your hardest decision will be where to unpack your picnic basket. After enjoying your picnic explore the beautiful Roma Street Parklands with a free guided walk conducted by an experienced guide or jump aboard the Parkland Explorer for a gold coin donation.
New Farm Park
Picnic among the roses at New Farm Park or perhaps unroll your picnic blanket under one of the many magnificent old trees on the banks of the Brisbane River. New Farm Park is a popular picnic spot for families and groups of friends and has plenty of free parking for convenience.
City Botanic Gardens
In the heart of Brisbane city lies the green oasis known as the City Botanic Gardens. With endless locations within the gardens to have a picnic, feel free to set yourself up near the river or hide away in one of the garden ‘rooms’. If you don’t feel like bringing your own picnic hamper to the City Botanic Gardens order ahead for one from the The Gardens Club.
Captain Burke Park
Enjoy your picnic under the mighty Story Bridge when you picnic at Captain Burke Park or set up on the city side of the park or on the Dockside area. There are bbq’s for use and a children’s playground for the little one’s and on the door step of the park is the Holman Street Ferry Terminal if you feel like enjoying a cruise on the river after your picnic lunch.
Ive highlighted some of my favourite inner city picnic locations but there are many more places to enjoy the delights of your picnic basket within Brisbane city. Just remember if you are planning a picnic event with a large group of people and want to book a particular spot you may need to get in contact with the Brisbane City Council.
Let me know below your favourite picnic spot.
