Spring in Brisbane is a wonderful season. With magnificent warm weather and flowers blooming everywhere there is no excuse to stay indoors, it’s the perfect time to get out and about and experience our magnificent River City.

I apologise for the delay in this post, technical issues prevented me being able to upload to my blog for a number of days! Thankfully I am back on track and I hope you can take inspiration from my list of favourite things to do in Brisbane this September.

Every week there is a new cafe or restaurant opening in Brisbane and with sunrise happening earlier and warmer nights upon us the weather is perfect to get out and try that new cafe that has just opened down the road.  I have recently dined at two venues new to me The Montague Hotel, West End and The Moray Cafe, New Farm. Click on the name of each to read my review.

Experience the Brisbane Festival

From September 9 to 30 experience the Brisbane Festival – an incredible program of performances, art, theatre, music, dance, circus, opera and major public events such as Sunsuper Riverfire. Brisbane Festival aims to connect artists and audiences in ways that lift the spirit, disrupt the conventional and open our city to the world. See what’s on at Brisbane Festival and book your tickets here.

Spring marks the beginning of Jacaranda season in Brisbane. It’s the time of year when Brisbane turns purple and everything from parks, footpaths and gardens are blooming with magnificent Jacaranda trees.  I recently saw trees beginning to flower at Kangaroo Point, be on the lookout for these blooming beauties.

Explore your Italian side

Italy is renowned for its pasta, fashion, fast cars and film – yes film! You can discover the world of Italian film at the Lavazza Italian Film Festival (LIFF) at Palace Cinemas from September 20 to October 8. Festival highlights include the Opening Night Gala featuring Italian Golden Globes award-winning comedy Let Yourself Go! (Lasciati Andare), directed by Francesco Amato (Cosimo and Nicole). The festival closes with Life is Beautiful (La Vita e Bella), an effervescent, uplifting, comedic and tragic film by Italy’s king of slapstick Roberto Benigni, whose spirit explodes on screen like fireworks. See the selection of films being shown at the 2017 LIFF here.

Taste Sunshine at the Museum of Brisbane’s new exhibition titled ‘Tastes like Sunshine’. Explore the flavoursome side of our city’s character and discover its rich and evolving food story through contemporary art, personal stories and historical documents, and images. Featuring exciting new artwork and installations by acclaimed artists Elizabeth Willing, Sean Rafferty and Carol McGregor, Tastes like Sunshine engages all five senses in an interactive experience that will challenge your pre-existing notions of food. Read more about the FREE ‘Tastes like Sunshine’ exhibition here.

Happy Spring everyone, let me know what you get up to this September.
