Lunch at The Montague Hotel

Monday lunching is a great way to cure Mondayitis and when I was recently invited to dine at The Montague Hotel at West End, I thought what an absolutely fabulous way to start the week.

The Montague Hotel, or ‘Monty’ as they like to be known, is located on Montague Street, West End and is a brand new gastropub which opened in April this year. Monty’s ‘industrial retro’ decor complete with artwork by street artist Stewart Shuker, has restaurant seating for 80 and the venue overall can accommodate 400 people. Copper beer tanks hang as a feature over the bar with more than 17 premium and craft beers on tap – including The Monty’s own brews.

Having never dined at The Montague Hotel I was thinking pub food would be the order of the day. However after reading thru the menu I can confirm that the food varies from regular pub style food from pizzas, burgers and steaks to slow-cooked meats from the charcoal rotisserie to healthy options such as wraps and salads to indulgent desserts.

We began lunch with Haloumi Fries which were dusted in salt, peper and cumin and then shared the Goats Cheese pizza (fresh goats cheese, roast baby beetroot, mozarella, walnuts, caramelised onion and fresh rocket) and the Superfood Detox Salad (shredded cabbage, carrott, alfafa sprouts, beetroot, avocado, quinoa on a bed of triple greens – kale, rocket and baby spinach, topped with sauerkraut, crushed almonds and splashed with a light olive oil dressing). Our meals were tasty, beautifully presented and served promptly.

When indulging on a Monday dessert is definitely in order and we chose the Hot Belgian Waffles (fresh strawberries, Dutch chocolate, vanilla bean ice cream and salted caramel sauce) and Bailey’s Cookies and Cream parfait (crumbled Oreo cookies, whipped Baileys and vanilla bean cream and layered chocolate mousse). Both desserts were jaw dropping in presentation and worthy of breaking a diet to enjoy.
