Friday flashback celebrates vintage Brisbane with the 1946 Royal Queensland Show known today as ‘The Ekka’.

Today the Ekka begins in Brisbane and this year it celebrates 140 years of bringing the country to the city to celebrate and recognise agriculture and the role it plays in our lives. This much loved family event showcases the best of Queensland with animal competitions, award-winning food and wine, live entertainment, side-show alley, show bags and educational activities.

Time hasn’t changed since the show days of this photograph of 1946 as these two young girls enjoy their fairy floss while holding sample bags.
