Over 180 never-before-seen interviews, performance footage excerpts and personal artefacts
gathered from around the world are now on display from Mao’s Last Dancer Li Cunxin at the Museum of Brisbane exclusive: Mao’s Last Dancer the exhibition: A Portrait of Li Cunxin.

Open now till 29 April 2018, Mao’s Last Dancer the exhibition explores Li’s inspirational story from his poverty-stricken childhood in China, the chance of fate that took him to Madame Mao’s Beijing Dance Academy, his dramatic move to the United States and international fame.

The world-first exhibition, which is also the first ticketed exhibition for Museum of Brisbane, brings audiences up to date with Li’s life and ongoing impact beyond the best-selling book and movie. Li moved to Australia with his wife, Brisbane-born ballet star Mary McKendry, in 1995 to become a Principal Artist with The Australian Ballet. Today he lives in Brisbane where he is Artistic Director of the Queensland Ballet.
